ECB may lower interest rates in June

The European Central Bank (ECB) is confident of lowering interest rates if data from May and June reveal that its monetary policy response remains strong, although it cannot commit to further cuts after that.

The president of the institution, Christine Lagarde, highlighted, during her participation in an event organized by the Institute for Monetary and Financial Stability, in Frankfurt, that during the months of May and June the institution will have much more data to know if it is on the right track. to achieve its 2% inflation target.

“If this data reveals a sufficient degree of alignment between the underlying inflation path and our projections, and assuming that transmission remains strong, we can move to the review phase of our monetary policy cycle and ease the restrictive stance” , he stated.
