This recognition attests to the effectiveness of the company’s responsible gambling measures.

Donations Supporting Responsible Gaming

In 2023, Sands China donated a total of MOP 1,000,000 to five local nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) in Macao, furthering the cause of responsible gaming in the community.

These funds supported a range of initiatives, including parent-child responsible gaming activities, financial management programmes, roadshows, workshops and awareness campaigns, alongside many more.

The supported NGOs were the Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau, the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office, the Macao Gaming Industry Employees Home, the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao, and the Bosco Youth Service Network.

Roadshows

To raise awareness among team members, Sands China organized 46 responsible gaming roadshows in 2023, held in the back-of-house areas of its properties.

These sessions reached over 30,000 team members, focused on responsible gaming services provided by NGOs, debunking gambling myths, and sharing up-to-date information on responsible gaming principles.

Training

Sands China prioritizes comprehensive training programs in caring for the physical and mental well-being of its team members; to help them support their families and the property’s guests, the company conducted various responsible gaming trainings sessions, totalling 25,000 training hours and benefiting 23,500 participants.

These sessions catered to both frontline and back-of-house team members, as well as the Sands China Responsible Gaming Ambassadors.

Noteworthy presentations included a lecture by Professor Bo J. Bernhard, a renowned responsible gambling expert from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), during the 8th Responsible Gaming Ambassador Advanced Training. Sands China also collaborated with the University of Macau to offer the RG 360 – Macao Responsible Gaming Specialist Ambassador Course, providing specialized training with a local context.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd. emphasized the company’s dedication to responsible gaming, saying, “As an integrated resort operator, it is our responsibility to raise awareness of the importance of responsible gaming among our team members and the community. Looking back over the past year, we have promoted the understanding of responsible gaming through donations to support local social service organisations, training sessions, and workshops. Sands China will carry this momentum forward in the year ahead and beyond, and we look forward to continue working with local organisations to help promote responsible gaming and the sustainable and healthy development of the industry.”

Parent-Child Event Series

Sands China also hosted six parent-child events in 2023, engaging 1,300 participants. These events aimed to strengthen communication and understanding within families while promoting sound financial management concepts and habits. Activities included the first responsible gaming carnival in Macao, the Sands China Responsible Gaming Parent-Child Happy Carnival; Parent-child Adventure Experience Day; and Parent-child Family Financial Management Competition Day, among others.
