Sands China hosts a collection of Chinese Contemporary Art until February 27th

The exhibition, held at The Venetian^® Macao will be open to the public from February 1 to 27, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Admission is free, providing a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts and the public to explore the vibrant landscape of Chinese contemporary art.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., expressed his enthusiasm for hosting this exhibition in Macao, a renowned hub for cultural exchange and a window to the world. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese contemporary artists have continued to engage in thought-provoking dialogues about the current era and social environment.

“We aim to utilise Macao’s role as a base for cultural exchange and China’s window to the world to showcase the strong vitality of Chinese contemporary art to tourists from all over the world”,   he said.

 

Through this exhibition, Sands China aims to nourish the souls of visitors with art and inspire local artists in Macao.

Artworks can be seen at The Venetian Macao that reflect the artists’ cultural and existential experiences within the context of globalization, information simulation and transformation, art and technology convergence, the value and boundaries of art, the female perspective, urbanization processes, and the history of media communication.

The carefully selected artworks include oil paintings, videos, performance art, and installations, chosen for their originality and their ability to offer insights into social realities. From established artists with significant achievements to emerging talents with enriched creative backgrounds, the exhibition represents the width and depth of Chinese contemporary art.

This exhibition is co-organized by Sands China and the Chinese Modern Art Archive (CMAA) of Peking University, with support from the Macao University of Science and Technology (MUST) Library and the Faculty of Humanities and Arts.

The collaboration underscores Sands China’s commitment to bringing diverse art experiences to Macao and showcasing the cultural achievements of China’s economic reform to the world.

Professor Zhu Qingsheng, the esteemed curator of this exhibition, is an accomplished art historian, critic, and artist. His expertise and vision have shaped the exhibition, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the evolving trends and concepts in Chinese contemporary art.

“We are literally showcasing the cultural achievements of China’s economic reform to the world” ,  he stated.

The grand opening ceremony, held on Wednesday (January 31st), was followed by a seminar where artists engaged in artistic exchanges with Professor Zhu Qingsheng and other distinguished guests. The discussion focused on the development of contemporary art education and creation in both Macao and mainland China, further enriching the artistic dialogue surrounding the exhibition.
