GEG, as the largest corporate shareholder of Société Anonyme des Bains de Mer et du Cercle des Étrangers à Monaco (“Monte-Carlo SBM”), a renowned owner and operator of luxury hotels and resorts in Monaco, holds a unique position as the sole Asian shareholder and the only shareholder based outside of Europe. This position has enabled GEG to actively promote communication and cooperation between Macao and Monaco in culture and related areas, resulting in mutual benefits.

During her time in the region, Ambassador Marie-Pascale Boisson, accompanied by Mr. Frédéric Genta, engaged in fruitful discussions with Mr. Liu Xianfa, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR, and Mr. André Cheong Weng Chon, Secretary for Administration and Justice of the Macao SAR Government. The discussions focused on exploring further cooperation opportunities between Macao and Monaco in the Greater Bay Area. Both sides exchanged best practices and ideas on topics such as gastronomy, culture, and sports events scheduled for 2025. Notably, Mr. Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of GEG; Mr. Troy Hickox, GEG’s representative on the board of Monte Carlo SBM; and Mr. Buddy Lam, Executive Vice President of GEG, actively participated in these meetings, emphasizing GEG’s commitment to leveraging its bridging advantage to facilitate communication and cooperation between Macao and Monaco.

Expressing her enthusiasm, H.E. Ms. Marie-Pascale Boisson, Ambassador of Monaco to the People’s Republic of China, stated, “Monaco and Macao share a future with China at its heart, defined by collaboration and mutual respect. As we continue on this journey of friendship with a shared vision, we are delighted to invite our associates across China to celebrate the transformative power of unity and cooperation.”

Mr. Frédéric Genta emphasized the significance of the visit, stating, “This visit marks a key milestone in the longstanding alliance between Monaco and Macao. As we exchange insights on cultural, technological, and economic fronts, we aim to foster a symbiotic relationship that transcends geographic boundaries and paves the way for future opportunities.”

Mr. Francis Lui added, ” Through shared ambitions, and collaboration in tourism, technology, gastronomy and the arts, we aim to bring greater awareness of both Macao and Monaco onto the global stage..”

GEG’s strategic investment in Monte-Carlo SBM in July 2015 has laid the foundation for ongoing international development opportunities and continuous exchange and cooperation between China, the Macao SAR, and Monaco.
