The Irish Government has launched a program that aims to revitalize some of the country’s most remote islands. And he will pay everyone who accepts the challenge.
In all, there are 23 islands included in the “Our Living Islands” initiative. The problem, despite the appealing monetary value, is isolation.
“We want to see more people working, living and raising families in these places, giving them life”, summarized Heather Humphreys, Irish Minister for Rural Development.
84,000 euros will be distributed to each of the candidates, money that will be used in the restoration of abandoned houses, among other destinations.
The only condition is that each of the houses to be rehabilitated is over 30 years old and has been vacant for at least two years.
There will also be donations that will help the new inhabitants settle in.
Inis Mór, one of the islands included in the program, has recently become famous for being the setting for the film “The Spirits of Inisherin”, starring actor Colin Farrell, which received nine Oscar nominations.
Applications start on the 1st of July – you can learn more about the conditions here.
Recently, in Spain, the small mountain town of Ponga announced that it will pay around 3000 euros to anyone who wants to live there. And in Italy, Presicce-Acquarica offers €30,000 to new residents.
