Guangzhou saw 9.83 million tourists during the Spring Festival holiday, which ran from January 21 to 27, up 27.6 percent year-on-year, according to Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau. Revenue from tourism exceeded 6.8 billion RMB, up 25 percent from the same period last year.

During the week-long holiday, Guangzhou basked in a festive hustle and bustle as people celebrated the Chinese New Year with strong consumer sentiments. The city issued 20 million RMB in culture and tourism coupons and rolled out more than 600 cultural and tourism activities including performances, exhibitions, and lantern fairs, bringing an authentic Lingnan New Year vibe to visitors.

Major travel agencies in Guangzhou received 3,491 travel groups, an increase of 235 percent compared to the previous year.

Statistics showed that tourist visits to Chimelong Tourist Resort, Canton Tower, and many other key scenic spots rose over 150 percent from the same holiday period in 2022. Some of these spots including Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area, Canton Tower, South China National Botanical Garden, and Beijing Road shopping area exceeded their pre-epidemic reception level in 2019.
