The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced yesterday its intention to recruit 12 to 14 new reserve astronauts for future spaceflight missions. And which, for the first time, will select payload specialists from the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau
The reservist astronauts are part of the country’s fourth batch of astronauts: seven to eight will be spacecraft pilots, while five to six will be spaceflight engineers and payload specialists.
The spacecraft pilots will be recruited from the military’s in-service pilots, according to the CMSA.
Spaceflight engineers will be selected from those engaged in scientific research and engineering work in aerospace engineering and related fields, while payload specialists will come from researchers focused on space science and applications, the CMSA said.
