Florentino sees “positive signs” from Benfica’s pre-season

Portuguese Under-21 international footballer Florentino Luís hopes to “help” Benfica with the experience he has gained after two loans, but stresses that it is not up to him to decide whether he stays in the squad.

“The experiences abroad, in France and Spain, made me grow. It’s always good when you go abroad, the adversities and the championships are different. I will try to bring all the experience I gained abroad to help the team,” the player told reporters before another team training session in England.

The midfielder also replied that it is not up to him to decide whether he stays in the squad after pre-season, when asked if this would be the one to stay at Luz, after loans in 2020/2021 to Monaco and 2021/2022 to Getafe.

“It’s been a good return home, it’s always good to be at Benfica, I’ve enjoyed every training session, the private game we’ve already played, it’s been a good way to evolve, we’ve picked up the coach’s ideas and that’s the path we want to follow”, stressed the player.

In relation to the extended group of 38 players who traveled to the training camp in Burton and who have been working at St. George’s Park, Florentino Luís rejected the idea that it is a bad option, although it may seem so to those outside.

“From an outsider’s perspective it may seem bad, but for those who are inside it is to help, it becomes easier, there is more rotation in the exercises and I think we can do more things,” he justified.
