Thongchai Yenprasert was a prominent political figure and veteran law enforcement officer in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province who served as the president of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation for over two decades.
His public career began in 1984 when he joined the national police force, eventually rising to the rank of colonel before transitioning into local governance.

After moving into regional politics, Thongchai established a strong presence in Nonthaburi, holding the presidency of the regional administrative body through multiple reelection cycles. In 2020, he successfully secured a fourth term leading the organization, defeating a political challenge mounted by former lawmaker Chalong Reawraeng.
Thongchai passed away at the age of 71 at a local hospital on Monday afternoon following an emergency admission for multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal hit to the neck. Authorities identified Chalong Reawraeng as the primary suspect in the fatal shooting, citing a personal dispute as the preliminary motive behind the incident inside a municipal office.
