Agricultural census reveals that more than 141 thousand Timorese families are involved in the sector

More than 141,000 Timorese families, representing almost two-thirds of the country’s households, are involved in agricultural activities, with around 220,000 hectares of land dedicated to the sector, according to data from the 2019 Agricultural Census.

The Census, which involved research in almost 2,240 enumeration zones and involved more than 1.2 million inhabitants, shows that there are currently 597 entities – including companies, non-governmental, community and government organizations – in the agricultural sector.

Globally, more than 764,000 people belong to households linked to the agricultural sector.
