Patriotism highlighted in Youth Policy for Macau until 2030

The public consultation on Youth Policy (2021-2030) starts tomorrow. In contrast to the current one, it will cover a larger universe, since it will start to cover young people aged between 13 and 35 years old (before going until 29 years old), “with a view to articulating with the youth policies” of the China.

The reinforcement of patriotism appears as one of the five directions: “It is a nuclear concept. ‘Love for the Motherland and for Macau’ has always been a core value of Macau’s society ”, justified the deputy director of Education and Youth Services (DSEJ), Kong Chi Meng.

Kong Chi Meng made it clear that patriotism will not be imposed, especially in schools: “It is not mandatory. The curriculum also contains related content, such as appreciating Chinese culture – this is also patriotic education. We just want young people to feel the culture of their country, forming a culture of belonging ”.
