Husband beats wife after firing maid

According to the Judiciary Police, the economic pressure and wage cuts caused by the pandemic have been the cause of the increase in disagreements between a couple who were forced to dismiss the maid.

A resident of Macau with Filipino nationality was present yesterday at the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), after being accused of the crime of simple offense to physical integrity for assaulting his wife, with whom he has two children.

According to information revealed yesterday by the Judiciary Police (PJ) at a press conference, the disagreements between the couple will have started from the moment when, due to the crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic, both saw their salaries being reduced in their jobs. With less revenue coming in at the end of the month, the couple decided to fire the maid, who was usually responsible for taking their children to school.

The assault took place on the morning of September 15. After returning home from the service, where he works as a security guard, the 31-year-old man was preparing to rest when his wife asked him to take his son to school. The request led to a heated discussion, which would end with the man punching the victim, wounding him in the face, next to one eye. After the assault, the woman left the house with one of the children and complained to the police.
