Macau’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 1.43% in May 2026 compared to the same month last year, driven by a nearly 5% spike in transportation costs due to rising fuel prices, official data showed today.
According to a statement from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.19% year-on-year, propelled primarily by higher costs for dining out and takeout meals. Meanwhile, the price index for the transport sector climbed by 4.79% as a direct consequence of rising gasoline prices.
Other sectors also experienced upward pressure, with miscellaneous goods and services—encompassing personal care, insurance, jewelry, goldsmith articles, and watches—rising by 3.56% year-on-year. Clothing and footwear prices similarly increased by 2.91% compared to May 2025.
