In recent years, 11/11 this day has been used by businessman in Asia, defined this day as “Singles Day” to promote shopping. On this day, there are many online promotional activities. Online shops are doing their best to attract netizens to place orders for shopping. This year, the event was extended to 4 consecutive days. This year, the focus is: this “festival” can be a contribution to stimulating economic recovery? Or is it the crime of advocating overconsumption? However, 11/11 has another meaning.

102 years ago, on November 11th , 1918, the representatives of Germany and signed the “Armistice of 11 November 1918” in Oise, France, and the First World War ended. This day is also designated as “Remembrance Day” and European and American countries have set up a memorial day to mourn the soldiers who died in battle. In Macau, there were also volunteers who went to Europe to join the Portuguese Expeditionary Force to participate in the battle against Germany. In S. Francisco Garden, there is a pink “European War Memorial” with the emblem of the “Liga dos Combatentes”; and in the St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, there is a “European War Soldiers Memorial” engraved with the names of soldiers who participated in the war.

After the end of the First World War, the following 20th century remained unstable. The compensation agreement after the end of World War I, left the seeds of World War II; Britain’s gold was outflowed due to huge war expenditures, and the U.S. dollar gradually replaced the hegemony of the British pound. After the end of World War I, the “May Fourth Movement” appeared in China. It had an impact on modern culture and thought.

11/11, this is the day only for consumption?
