Five people died and 17 were injured in a series of automatic weapon attacks on Monday night in Vienna, according to a new report by the Austrian authorities.
“Unfortunately, a new victim died in the hospital. This brings the total death toll to two men and two women, ”a ministry spokesman told AFP news agency, adding to the death of an attacker.
The perpetrator killed by the police was a 20-year-old young man with dual Austrian and North Macedonian nationality, who already had a previous conviction for terrorism, officials said.
At least 17 people were injured in the attack, according to the AP news agency.
The attack, the first in Vienna in 35 years, began with a shootout at around 8 pm (7 pm in Lisbon) on a central street where the main synagogue in Vienna is located, then closed, and very close to a very busy bar area.
