Deaths of these animals may be related to malnutrition and sea pollution
Scientists have discovered about 7,000 dead sea lions in central Namibia, in southern Africa, an event that would be related to a “mass abortion”, officials announced on Saturday (24). Environmentalist Naudé Dreyer, of the Ocean Conservation Namibia association, was already warning in September about the presence of dead sea lions on the beaches of Pelican Point, near the town of Walvis Bay.
“In the first two weeks of October, it was possible to observe what veterinarians describe as a mass abortion. There were many fetuses there, ”explained Dr. Tess Gridley of the Namibian Dolphin Project in a telephone interview with AFP.
