Sea level in Portugal should reach an increase of about one meter by 2100

The forecast was given to PLATAFORMA by Professor João Miguel Dias, a specialist in Physical Oceanography with an interest in sea level areas and coastal flooding, from the University of Aveiro

In the week that World Maritime Day was celebrated, we talked to experts about the seas. João Miguel Dias is the director of undergraduate courses in Physics and Marine Sciences at the University of Aveiro, as well as co-coordinator of the thematic line Integrated Environmental Systems of the Center for Environmental and Marine Studies.

Being a specialist in physical oceanography, we sought to know the state of the Portuguese coastal areas. “They are constantly evolving”, assumes the academic, warning that “some areas in particular due to the risk of accentuated erosion”.
