Barcelona are weighing a move for Sporting CP striker Luis Suárez as a potential alternative to Julián Álvarez, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who reports the Colombian forward has entered the Catalan club’s shortlist of striking options.
Álvarez remains Barcelona’s clear priority following Robert Lewandowski’s departure and Ferran Torres’ impending exit to Paris Saint-Germain, but the club’s pursuit of the Atlético Madrid forward has struggled to gain traction, with the Madrid side unwilling to entertain offers for him.

Romano indicated that Suárez, while considered part of Barcelona’s shortlist, would not be a straightforward signing given his importance to Sporting. According to the report, Barcelona will only turn their attention to Suárez, or explore further options, starting next week, and only if the Álvarez deal remains stalled by then.
Suárez, 28, joined Sporting from Almería last summer and enjoyed a standout debut campaign in Portugal, scoring 38 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions. Before that move, he also built experience in Spain with Almería, netting 41 goals in 79 appearances, though a significant portion of that tally came in the Spanish second division.
