Filipe Nyusi is the richest in Mozambique

A ranking published by Africa Trendy shows the five richest people in Mozambique, where the current President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi leads the way, without knowing, however, what the value of his fortune is

Nyusi, of Makonde ethnicity, has been the President of the Republic of Mozambique since 2015, having been re elected last year. From 2008 to 2014 he was the country’s Minister of Defense. He belongs to the Mozambique Liberation Front party (FRELIMO).

The former Mozambican Head of State (2005-2015) comes in second place. According to investigative journalist Marcelo Mosse, Armando Guebuza, who led this ranking for several years, earned the nickname “Mr. Gue-Business ”. He is a shareholder in the Laurentina beer, the second largest brewer in the country (2M is now the most sold). He is also one of the largest shareholders of Banco Mercantil de Investimentos (BIM).

Daviz Simango appears to close the podium. The governor of the province of Beira since 2003, he is also president of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), founded by him in 2009. He is the son of Uria Simango, first vice president of FRELIMO. Later, he stopped following in his father’s footsteps and abandoned the party, having joined, in 1997, the eternal rival Resistência Nacional Moçambique (RENAMO).

In the fourth position as one of the richest in Mozambique comes Ossufo Momade. Politician, he has been president of RENAMO since the death of the charismatic leader Afonso Dhlakama. In 2019, he signed a non-aggression pact with Filipe Nyusi in Gorongosa. A second pact was signed later, where RENAMO committed itself to maintaining peace and national reconciliation.

Finally, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário appears. Member of FRELIMO, he has been the country’s prime minister since 2015. He has always worked in the Mozambican public administration. He was governor of the province of Zambézia from 1987 to 1994. He was also Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries until 1999.

After serving as a diplomat in Asia, having been Ambassador of Mozambique to Indonesia, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, accepts the post of prime minister appointed by Nyusi.
