Black Lives Matter boosts sales on books about racism

Works by Djamila Ribeiro, Carolina Maria de Jesus and Ana Maria Gonçalves jumped in June

Sales of some books that guide racism in Brazil increased sharply, driven by the global mobilization of Black Lives Matter, according to research by Nielsen.

In the first week of June, shortly after the assassination of George Floyd by a white policeman in Minneapolis, Djamila Ribeiro’s “Little Anti-Racist Manual” sold more than 3,000 copies, an increase of 184% over the previous week.
