Reigning back-to-back champions FC Barcelona kicked off their 2026/27 La Liga campaign in dominant fashion, securing a 5-0 victory away at Elche in matchday two.
The side managed by German head coach Hansi Flick controlled the match from the opening whistle. Raphinha opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after being fouled inside the box. Deep into first-half injury time (45+3′), new signing Karim Adeyemi doubled the lead following an assist from Raphinha.
Raphinha added his second goal of the match in the 67th minute off a setup by substitute Anthony Gordon. Four minutes later, Gordon set up a two-on-one counterattack, laying the ball off to Fermín López to score into an empty net. Fermín completed his own brace in the 79th minute with an impressive individual effort, sealing the 5-0 final score shortly before Portuguese international João Cancelo entered the pitch.

In other matchday action, Atlético de Madrid settled for a 2-2 draw at home against Villarreal. Marc Pubill put Atlético ahead in the 59th minute, but Villarreal answered with a Gerard Moreno penalty in the 66th minute. Atlético went down to ten men in the 76th minute when Robin Le Normand was sent off after conceding a penalty, which Georges Mikautadze converted to give Villarreal the lead.
Despite being a man down, Giuliano Simeone rescued a point for the hosts in the 85th minute. Portuguese international central defender Renato Veiga played the full 90 minutes for Villarreal.
Elsewhere, Getafe earned a 1-0 win over returning side Racing Santander, courtesy of an 81st-minute strike from Enes Ünal, coming just minutes after Racing’s Andrés Martín missed a 77th-minute penalty attempt.
