Massimiliano Allegri has officially returned to management as the new head coach of SSC Napoli, signing a three-year contract with the reigning Serie A runners-up.
“SSC Napoli welcomes Massimiliano Allegri as the head coach of the first team. He has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2029,” the club confirmed in an official press release.
Allegri enters the hot seat at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona as a free agent following a turbulent, short-lived stint at AC Milan. He was dismissed by the Rossoneri at the end of May after a disappointing campaign that saw the Milanese giants finish fifth in the league standings, failing to secure a lucrative qualification spot for the UEFA Champions League.
The 58-year-old tactician brings an extensively decorated yet highly dramatic track record to Naples. Prior to his spell in Milan, Allegri was controversially sacked by Juventus in May 2024. That dismissal was triggered by an explosive emotional outburst during the Coppa Italia final, where he was sent off in stoppage time for aggressive behavior directed at match officials, opponents, and members of the press.

Despite that exit, his double tenure in Turin (2014–2019 and 2021–2024) remains the pinnacle of his career, yielding 5 Serie A league titles, 5 Coppa Italia trophies, 2 Italian Super Cups.
At Napoli, Allegri succeeds Antonio Conte, who parted ways with the club amid escalating rumors positioning him as the leading candidate to take over the Italian national team. Allegri’s immediate mandate will be to stabilize a Napoli side eager to reclaim the Scudetto after finishing second last season.
His arrival adds another layer of intrigue to an elite tactical landscape in Italian football. The upcoming 2026/27 Serie A campaign will showcase a fascinating tactical rivalry, particularly with Portuguese manager Rúben Amorim taking the reins at AC Milan—the very seat Allegri was forced to vacate just weeks ago.
