Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for the continuation of peace negotiations between the United States and Iran during a meeting with Egyptian National Security Advisor Youssef Alaa El-Deen in India.
“The memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran—in which they committed to mutually respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, abstaining from military actions, and avoiding interference in each other’s internal affairs—sent a positive signal to the world that must be jointly preserved and implemented,” Wang stated on Monday, according to a press release from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Chinese diplomat advocated for maintaining active dialogue to bring an end to the war in the Middle East, though he conceded that the diplomatic process is unlikely to unfold without setbacks or difficulties.
During the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of a gathering of national security officials from the BRICS bloc of emerging economies in New Delhi, Wang also emphasized China’s willingness to jointly defend the independence and strengthening of the Global South.

On Monday, Wang also met with Iranian National Security Advisor Ghadir Nezamipour to discuss the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington, a diplomatic process being directly mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.
“As a comprehensive strategic partner of Iran, China has always maintained a fair and objective position, supports all efforts that contribute to peace, and supports Iran in defending its sovereignty, security, and national dignity,” Wang affirmed.
The presence of the BRICS representatives in India runs parallel to technical talks between Iranian and American delegations, which are scheduled to take place throughout the week in Switzerland.
