Portuguese fado singer and songwriter Beatriz Felício expressed today that she is fulfilling a long-held dream by performing for the first time in Cape Verde, with a concert scheduled for Thursday in the capital city of Praia.
“Coming to Cape Verde is a dream for me. For a long time, I have wanted to come here, to sing and bring what is my root and my musical culture,” she stated during a press conference at the Portuguese Cultural Center in Praia. The performance is scheduled for 7:00 PM local time at the Jorge Barbosa National Auditorium.
“I prepared a special concert for Cape Verde,” she revealed, adding that she will perform a song connected to Cape Verdean music adapted to the traditional fado style.
Beatriz Felício highlighted the deep cultural connection between Portugal and Cape Verde.

“I think the spirit of the Portuguese and Cape Verdean people is very similar,” she remarked, describing the relationship between the two nations as something unique.
The fado artist also expressed her desire to collaborate with Cape Verdean musicians in the future. Her concert is one of three events comprising the second edition of the International Fado Festival in Cape Verde, running from today until Friday.
The program includes the screening of the documentary “Do Bairro” by Diogo Varela Silva and a lecture-concert titled “O Fado e os Bairros” led by fado singer Rodrigo Costa Félix.
