The Portuguese national soccer team drew 1–1 against the Democratic Republic of the Congo today during their opening matchday fixture in Group K of the 2026 World Cup.
In Houston, United States, Portugal took an early lead just six minutes into the game through a goal scored by João Neves, who was assisted by Pedro Neto. Cristiano Ronaldo played the whole 90 minutes.
However, deep into first-half stoppage time at the 45+5th minute mark, Yoane Wissa restored equity for the African side, securing a level scoreline that remained unchanged until the final whistle.

With this opening result, both the Portuguese and Congolese squads claim one point each to temporarily sit at the top of the Group K standings.
Their initial placement comes ahead of the upcoming group clash between Colombia and tournament debutants Uzbekistan, which is scheduled to take place in Mexico City.
