Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha has become the newest addition to Colo-Colo. Following a historic run at the 2026 World Cup with Cape Verde’s national team, the 40-year-old international has secured the most lucrative contract of his career, signing an 18-month deal with the Santiago-based Chilean club.

According to figures reported by the Chilean press, the goalkeeper will earn 47 million Chilean pesos per month, roughly 45,000 euros, amounting to a total package exceeding 720,000 euros by the time his contract expires at the end of 2027.

The salary places Vozinha near the top of Colo-Colo’s pay scale, trailing only Chilean star Arturo Vidal.

The move comes on the back of a remarkable World Cup campaign. Vozinha arrived at the tournament as a free agent after his contract with Portugal’s GD Chaves ended, but his performances in goal helped Cape Verde become the smallest nation by population ever to reach the knockout stage of a World Cup.

Across four matches in the tournament, Vozinha made 18 saves, standing out in the group stage against Spain (0-0), Uruguay (2-2) and Saudi Arabia (0-0). In the round of 16, despite Cape Verde’s elimination against Argentina (3-2 after extra time), he was once again decisive with eight saves, denying several attempts from Lionel Messi.

His performances earned him a place in FIFA’s team of the tournament and a dramatic surge in global recognition, with his social media following jumping from around 50,000 to more than 29 million.

Josimar Évora, who adopted the nickname “Vozinha” early in his career as a tribute to the grandparents who raised him, is now set to take over as goalkeeper for the current leader of the Chilean league, under the guidance of Argentine coach Fernando Ortiz.
