At least 3,375 people have died in Iran since the beginning of the war triggered by Israel and the United States, the head of the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization announced today.

According to the head of Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization, Abbas Masjedi, only four bodies from this new figure remain unidentified.

Masjedi, cited by the Mizan news agency, the official communication organ of the Iranian judiciary, did not detail casualties between civilians and security forces, stating only that 2,875 were men and 496 were women. According to him, 383 were under 18 years of age.

The new figures released by Masjedi have raised doubts about whether or not they include members of the security forces, especially because of the intense bombing against military bases and arsenals in the country.

The attack by Israel and the United States of America against Iran on February 28 lasted for 39 consecutive days until a two-week ceasefire entered into force on April 8, which expires next Wednesday.

The US and Israel justified the military attack against Iran citing the Islamic Republic’s inflexibility in negotiations to end uranium enrichment as part of its nuclear program, which it claims is intended only for civilian purposes.

In retaliation for the offensive, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, shaking the world economy, and launched attacks against targets in Israel, American bases, and civilian infrastructure in countries in the region such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman, and Iraq.
