French judicial authorities have summoned billionaire Elon Musk to Paris to testify regarding an ongoing investigation into the social media platform X. The inquiry centers on allegations of serious illicit practices, including the widespread dissemination of child sexual abuse material and sexually explicit deepfake content.
The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested that both Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino attend what have been described as “voluntary interviews.” Other company collaborators are also expected to provide statements as witnesses throughout the coming week to help clarify the platform’s internal operational standards.
This development follows a series of searches conducted at X’s French facilities last February. These actions are part of a broader probe launched in January 2025 by the cybercrime unit of the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office. Both executives were summoned in their capacity as managers of the firm during the period in question.
Prosecutors emphasize that these hearings aim to provide the individuals with an opportunity to present their positions and outline the compliance measures implemented by the platform. The legal team has characterized this as a cooperative approach, seeking to ensure the company aligns with French national legislation.

The investigation was initially triggered by formal complaints from a French parliamentarian regarding alleged algorithmic distortions on the platform. The scope of the case expanded significantly after X’s AI system, Grok, allegedly generated controversial content, including material denying the Holocaust and explicit deepfakes.
French authorities are currently investigating serious suspicions regarding the company’s role in the dissemination of illegal content. The charges being examined include complicity in sharing child pornography, deepfake distribution, the denial of crimes against humanity, and the organized manipulation of automated data systems.
