Arsenal have reached agreement with Newcastle on a fee of around €87 million (£75m) for the club’s captain, Bruno Guimarães, who has now been given permission to travel for a medical examination.
According to reports, Guimarães informed Newcastle’s management earlier this summer that he wanted to move to Arsenal should a suitable offer materialize. The Gunners’ initial bid was turned down, but the 28-year-old now appears set to join the Premier League champions.
Guimarães signed for Newcastle from Lyon in 2022 for a fee of roughly €46 million (£40m) and has since made 195 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals.

Newcastle had been eager to keep Guimarães, who still has two years remaining on his contract plus a club option for a third year, but should this deal go through as expected, the club will have generated more than €277 million (£240m) from player sales alone this summer.
That figure includes Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona for roughly €80 million (£69.3m) and Sandro Tonali’s transfer to Tottenham for around €115 million (£100m), on top of manager Eddie Howe’s departure, capping off what has been a turbulent summer at St James’ Park.
