Palmeiras won the São Paulo state championship on Sunday, beating Novorizontino 2-1 away in the second leg of the final, to claim the 11th trophy under Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira — a record.
In the role since October 2020, the Portuguese coach surpassed Oswaldo Brandão’s ten titles to become the most decorated manager in Palmeiras’ history, on a day when he won the state championship for the fourth time, repeating his success in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Abel Ferreira had also previously won two Copa Libertadores (2020 and 2021), one Copa Sudamericana (2022), two Brasileirão titles (2022 and 2023), one Copa do Brasil (2020) and one Brazilian Supercup (2023).
In the 2026 Paulistão final, Palmeiras confirmed their aggregate victory in Novo Horizonte after the first-leg home win of 1-0, sealed by Argentine Flaco López in the 35th minute.
Abel Ferreira’s side went ahead in the second leg as early as the sixth minute through Murilo. The hosts equalised in the 26th through Matheus Bianqui, but Vitor Roque ended any doubt in the 62nd minute, sealing Palmeiras’ 27th Paulistão title.
While the Portuguese coach collected his 11th trophy, Paraguayan centre-back Gustavo Gómez claimed his 13th.
