Russian president Vladimir Putin, an ally of Tehran, pledged “unwavering support” today to Mojtaba Khamenei, appointed on Sunday as Iran’s new supreme leader.
“I wish to reaffirm our unwavering support for Tehran and our solidarity with our Iranian friends,” Putin said in a message to Mojtaba Khamenei, son of ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 — the first day of the US and Israeli war against Iran.
Putin stated that “Russia has been and will continue to be a reliable partner” of Iran.
