Switzerland took a major step today toward qualifying for the round of 32 of the 2026 football World Cup by defeating Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1 in a match played in Los Angeles.
In a game that only opened up during the final fifteen minutes, the Swiss broke down the opposing defense in the 74th minute with a goal by Johan Manzambi, a player who would go on to score a second goal in the 90th minute.
Rubén Vargas had previously made it 2-0 in the 84th minute, while Granit Xhaka closed out the scoring deep into stoppage time (90+7) by successfully converting a penalty kick.

This late Swiss surge answered the solitary Bosnian goal, which was netted by Ermin Mahmic in the 93rd minute to briefly give his side hope before the final whistle blew.
With this triumph, Switzerland temporarily took sole possession of the top spot in Group B with four points, moving very close to securing advancement to the round of 32. Meanwhile, Bosnia-Herzegovina remains with just one point and will be forced to win its final group stage match against Qatar to keep its tournament hopes alive.
The Asian side, Qatar, is set to close out the second round of matches for this group when they face off against the co-hosts, Canada.
