Sit Chong Meng, director of the Judiciary Police (PJ), said yesterday that “the evidence is extensive” in the case involving Au Kam San, but declined to disclose further details as the case has already entered the trial stage. “We are entering the trial process and cannot disclose details,” he said, as quoted by TDM, on the sidelines of the Lunar New Year annual gathering.
The PJ director also stressed that “national security is a very important issue” for the force, assuring that investigations will be launched whenever there are indications of potential violations.
Au Kam San was detained in July last year on suspicion of breaching the law safeguarding state security. According to the PJ, the former lawmaker is suspected of alleged “collusion with external forces”, thereby “endangering national security”. Au Kam San served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao SAR for nearly two decades, always elected through direct suffrage.
When asked about the measures to be adopted this year in the area of national security, Sit Chong Meng said that “national security work is mainly about prevention.”
