Rising Chinese consumer confidence fuels Macau gaming growth: Galaxy COO

Improving consumer confidence in mainland China is expected to continue driving growth in Macau’s gaming market through the rest of the year, provided macroeconomic conditions remain stable, said Kevin Kelley, chief operating officer of Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG).

In an interview with Bloomberg on Thursday, Kelley also voiced disappointment over the slow progress in legalising casino gambling in Thailand.

His comments followed GEG’s first-half earnings report this week, showing a 19.4 percent year-on-year rise in profit to HK$5.24 billion (US$667.7 million). Net gaming revenue of the Macau gaming operator climbed 10.7 percent to HK$18.58 billion, while non-gaming revenue edged up 2.5 percent to HK$3.17 billion.
