Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), in collaboration with the Macau Special Olympics (MSO), officially launched the Fifth Anniversary Event Series of their “GEG Run with a Partner Training Program” with a kick-off ceremony at Broadway Macau.

The event reflects both organizations’ ongoing dedication to sports inclusion, community outreach, and unified sports.

Initiated in 2021, the program brings together MSO athletes and members of the GEG Runner’s Club under the GEG Staff Social Club for regular long-distance running training.

Over the past five years, the initiative has empowered many athletes with special needs to participate in events such as the Galaxy Entertainment Macau International Marathon, promoting physical fitness and social integration.

To mark its fifth year, GEG and MSO have significantly expanded outreach efforts by visiting local schools, social service organizations, and GEG’s back-of-house facilities.

Nearly 1,500 teachers, students, and social service members have engaged with the initiative through these visits, with the goal of encouraging broader participation from young runners and individuals with special needs.

The kick-off event was officiated by guests from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, the Sports Bureau, the Legislative Assembly, MSO, and GEG.

In his speech, MSO National Director Mr. Siu Yu Hong acknowledged GEG’s steadfast support, noting how the program has helped MSO athletes build confidence and achieve marathon goals with the aid of guide runners from GEG.

A video retrospective of the past five years set the tone for the event, followed by reflections from GEG Runner’s Club participants.

Kate Kwan, a GEG team member and a long-time guide runner of GEG Runner’s Club, shared how the experience has gone beyond physical training, fostering mutual encouragement and a deeper understanding of inclusion in sports.

Participants then engaged in a group warm-up session, symbolizing the spirit of teamwork and unity.

The program offers comprehensive training on marathon pacing and inclusive interaction.

Each athlete with special needs is paired with guide runners to develop personalized strategies and build physical resilience, preparing them for long-distance competitions.

The initiative is one of several community sports efforts spearheaded by GEG. This year marks the 15th anniversary of its support for the “GEG Macau Special Olympics Unified Table Tennis Fun Day.”

GEG also continues to promote youth sports through its sponsorship of “Galaxy Entertainment Group Presents: We Are Macau Athletes” and “PGA Tour Dreams, Macau,” further supporting Macau’s “tourism + sports” development goals.
