A horrific extreme sports accident in Brazil has resulted in the tragic death of a 21-year-old woman after her instructors reportedly failed to attach her safety rope before she plunged from an abandoned bridge. The catastrophic incident, which took place on Saturday, has led to the immediate arrest of three men involved in organizing the activity.
Local authorities in São Paulo state are currently investigating whether the individuals can be held criminally culpable for homicide with eventual intent, a legal designation used when a suspect does not intend to kill but knowingly assumes the immense risk of a fatal outcome.
The fatal accident unfolded at the notorious “Skeleton Bridge” (Ponte do Esqueleto), a long-abandoned infrastructure project sitting on the border of Limeira and Cordeirópolis in the interior of São Paulo. Distressing video footage of the incident went viral across social media platforms over the weekend, capturing the final moments of the victim, identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas.
In the recording, two men wearing white helmets can be seen physically lifting the young woman by her arms while a third individual guides her feet toward the ledge of the bridge. As she is launched over the edge, an onlooker can be heard frantically screaming at the instructors that they forgot to attach her safety cord.

Rodrigues de Freitas fell approximately 40 meters to the ground below, and emergency medical services officially pronounced her dead at the scene before her burial on Sunday. Unlike bungee jumping, which relies on elastic rubber cords to create a vertical bouncing effect, rope-jumping utilizes low-stretch climbing ropes designed to catch the jumper and convert the vertical freefall into a wide, horizontal pendulum swing.
While the three instructors present on the ledge were wearing their own safety harnesses secured to backup lines, they allegedly cast the victim off the structure completely unattached to any swinging mechanism.
The high-profile death has sparked a fierce jurisdictional battle between regional municipalities and national entities over the maintenance and security of the abandoned site. Because the Skeleton Bridge falls under the direct ownership and responsibility of the federal government, the City Hall of Limeira announced its intention to sue federal agencies for failing to properly manage and restrict access to the dangerous location.
Local officials expressed that while they have previously demanded administrative action to secure the area, this preventable loss of life makes further federal omission completely unsustainable. Meanwhile, investigators are working to determine whether the detained instructors operated under a legitimate private sports company or belonged to an informal, unregulated group of extreme sports practitioners.
🇧🇷‼️🚨 WOMAN THROWN DOWN FROM BRIDGE – FORGOT ROPE
This is probably the stupidest way to die. You pay the guys to throw you down the bridge … but they are sloppy and forgot the rope. You fall to your death.
