The crash occurred late Monday evening near Zamora, in northwestern Spain, Spanish state-owned TV station said on Thursday, citing local firefighters. Emergency services were alerted by bystanders who reported that the vehicle was engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to nearby vegetation.
Both Jota (28) and his 26-year-old brother were pronounced dead at the scene. Jota was newly married, just 11 days prior to the incident.
In his time with Liverpool, Jota was part of their Premier League title-winning campaign this past season. He was also part of the side which won the FA Cup in 2021/2022 and finished runners-up in the UEFA Champions League that same season.
