Macau braces for mainland Chinese travel surge over Dragon Boat Festival

Mainland China is expected to see a sharp increase in cross-border travel during this week’s Dragon Boat Festival — driven largely by a surge in mainland visitors to Hong Kong and Macau.

According to a forecast released by the Chinese National Immigration Administration and reported by Xinhua, average daily border crossings are projected to reach 2.15 million during the three-day holiday period from 31 May to 2 June, representing a 12.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

“Multiple dragon boat races and large-scale events will be held across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau during the Dragon Boat Festival,” the administration said, quoted by the Chinese state-run news agency.
