Sven-Goran Eriksson passed away this Monday at the age of 76, a victim of pancreatic cancer. Last January he had announced to Swedish radio P1 that he discovered he had the disease after a “sudden collapse”.
“Everyone understands that I have a disease that is not good and everyone guesses that it is cancer,” he said. “At best, I have maybe a year, at worst, maybe a little less,” he revealed at the time.
Coach of Benfica on two occasions, from 1982/83 to 1983/84 and from 1989/90 to 1991/92, he won three championships, a Portuguese Cup and a Super Cup, and was also a finalist in the 1989/90 European Champions Cup .
