Letras & Companhia, established in 2021, aims to engage and mobilize all age groups in the community, schools, and their stakeholders. This year’s festival will feature a wide range of activities including music, performing arts, workshops, reading sessions, and book launches, all revolving around the “three L’s”: language, books, and reading.
The festival recognizes the importance of mental health in navigating the complexities of modern life. Activities such as music, dance, theater, and art have been proven to have lasting benefits for emotional well-being and self-esteem, as stated by the World Health Organization.
Renowned author and illustrator Marina Palácio will be a featured guest, conducting workshops in schools and hosting a public workshop. The festival will also present the second volume of the collection “Tales from the Country of the Rainbow – Uma Menina Chamada Nuvem” by Mário Lúcio, accompanied by a performance from the dance company Raiz di Polon.
Workshops on yoga, aromatherapy, emotion management, and art therapy will be offered by professionals including Rita Gonçalves, Sandi Manhão, Andreia Martins, and psychologists Bárbara Mota and Goreti Lima. The festival will also feature an exhibition titled “What I Felt During the Pandemic” showcasing works from local schools and a special piece by designer Clara Brito.
Letras & Companhia will conclude with a ceremony where mini-libraries will be donated to schools teaching Portuguese in Macau. The festival is made possible through the collaboration of Fundação Oriente, Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua I.P., Livraria Portuguesa, Escola Portuguesa de Macau, LITS Languages, and the Hong Kong Children’s Choir.
All festival activities are free of charge, with registration required for certain events.
