Taylor Swift becomes first artist to win Grammy for Album of the Year four times

Taylor Swift today became the first artist to win the Grammy for Best Album for the fourth time, with the consecration of “Midnights” at the 66th edition of the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences awards.

“My head is exploding,” said Taylor Swift in her acceptance speech for the biggest award of the night in Los Angeles. “My prize is work. I love this so much,” she continued. “All I want is to keep doing this.”

Until now, only three artists, all male, had won the Grammy for Album of the Year three times: Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder. Grammy presenter, comedian Trevor Noah, noted the historic nature of Taylor Swift’s victory more than once.

The singer took Lana Del Rey, who was also nominated, to the stage when she received the statuette, giving her enormous praise.

“A lot of artists wouldn’t be here doing what they do if it weren’t for her,” she said, saying that Del Rey “is in her prime” and that she’s lucky to be her friend.

In a night dominated by female winners, Taylor Swift won not only Album of the Year but also Best Pop Vocal Album.

When she received the first statuette, Swift announced the release of her next album, which will be titled “The Tortured Poets Department” and will be released on April 19th.

The singer, who was nominated for six Grammys, also considered that the award is “a reflection of the fans’ passion”.

The ceremony took place at Crypto.com, downtown Los Angeles, and was the scene of other historic moments. Singer Billy Joel, 74, presented his first single in three decades, “Turn the Lights Back On”.

Singer Annie Lennox performed a version of the song “Nothing Compares 2 U”, in honor of Sinéad O’Connor, and left a message at the end. “Artists for a ceasefire,” said the singer. “World peace”.

Lennox’s words were the exception in a ceremony that was limited to music and art and did not stray into political messages, unlike what happened in previous editions.

The Portuguese Maria Mendes, who was nominated in the “Best Arrangements, Instrumentals and Vocals” category with the song “Com que Voz”, did not win the Grammy. The statuette was awarded to “In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning”.
