To enable participants to put their learning into practice, CIPA launched the New Art Studies in Filming Macau – Micro Movie Support Program in 2022 and received movie production applications from 20 teams for the second edition of the program, with five teams selected by a professional judging panel to win sponsorship for their micro movie production.

An opening ceremony was held for the 2nd New Art Studies in Filming Macau – Micro Movie Support Program, a program organized by the Creative Industries Promotion Association of St. Lazarus Church District (CIPA), at 10 Fantasia – A Creative Industries Incubator on the afternoon of January 25, 2024.

Guests attending the ceremony included the Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd. Dr. Wilfred Wong, Founding Chairman Leong Heng Teng, Chairman Vong Sek Kuan, Vice-Chairman Lok Hei, and Director-general Patrick Wong of CIPA, supervisor of the program Tracy Choi, and program curator Odia Lei.

The guests and the representatives from the program’s film teams officiated the opening ceremony for the five micro movies funded by the 2nd New Art Studies in Filming Macau – Micro Movie Support Program, namely Parents, Even as an Adult, Performance, Seventeen, and Sweet Pie, and expressed their wishes for a smooth filming process.

In his speech on behalf of CIPA, Director-general Patrick Wong expressed his delight in seeing that the second edition of the program has once again been sponsored by Sands China, allowing five groups of trainees to produce locally made micro movies.

Dr. Wilfred Wong noted that Sands China is honored to continue supporting the New Art Studies in Filming Macau – Micro Movie Support Program to nurture those in the younger generation who aspire to work in the film industry.

He expressed heartfelt appreciation to the CIPA team for their dedicated efforts in organizing this program and their perseverance in fostering local talent to sow the seeds of growth for the local film industry. He hopes the micro movie teams can enjoy a smooth process during filming and looks forward to seeing a new group of Macao’s rising filmmakers shine on the Asian stage.

CIPA has been running the New Art Studies in Filming Courses every year since 2012 to cooperate with the moderate industry diversification policy of the Macao SAR Government. By running these movie courses, CIPA aims to cultivate relevant talent and foster the development of film and television professionals in the city, with courses covering a variety of related fields over the years, including screenwriting, directing, production, acting, make-up artistry, editing, and special effects.

Entering its 20th anniversary this year, CIPA has collaborated with various parties and invited film professionals from different regions over the years to teach participants filmmaking and other professional skills and knowledge to elevate filmmaking standards in Macao. To date, the program has trained around 400 individuals with over 40 short and micro movies produced as assignments.
