The Speaker of the US House, Republican Kevin McCarthy, announced on Tuesday (12) that he had decided to open impeachment proceedings against Joe Biden. The decision, however, carries little risk for the Democratic leader due to the minimal chance of it being approved by Congress.
At the same time, it highlights McCarthy’s strategy of giving in to the more radical wing of the Republican Party in order to remain in office amid the party’s internal divisions.
