The deputy director of DST, Cheng Wai Tong, told the media that the government expects an increase in visitors in August, considering that the July numbers are a ‘good start’ and that more options for entertainment in the second half of the year will help boost the tourism market.
Macau registered a total of 11.6 million visitor arrivals in the first quarter of 2023, with the authorities predicting that 24 million tourists will pass through the Macao SAR by the end of the year.
Although there are no official statistical data on visitor arrivals in July, gross gaming revenue in Macau’s casinos reached a 42-month high of MOP16.66 billion.
DST noted that the number of daily visitor arrivals from Hong Kong has recovered to 90 percent of pre-COVID levels, whereby the government’s focus will shift from Hong Kong and mainland China to the international market.
