Lula has pneumonia and may postpone trip to China

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was admitted for tests at the Sírio-Libanês hospital in Brasília on Thursday night (23) with suspected pneumonia. The framework was confirmed by the Presidency.

Lula canceled all his appointments this Friday (24th) and his presidential trip to China, which was scheduled for the morning of the following day, is momentarily suspended.

There will be a new evaluation later this Friday, to decide whether the match takes place this Sunday.

Lula was admitted to the hospital after returning from his trip to Rio de Janeiro. He had high blood pressure and so they diagnosed suspected pneumonia.

The president’s status was later confirmed by the Planalto Palace.

“The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is in Alvorada after tests at the Sírio Libanês hospital last night. The president has mild pneumonia and will, as a result, postpone the start of his trip to China until Sunday,” he said in a statement.
