Sweden isolated themselves at the top of Group F in the 2026 football World Cup today by thrashing Tunisia 5-1 in a first-round match held in Guadalupe, Mexico.
Yasin Ayari, in the seventh and 90+6 minutes, Alexander Isak, in the 30th, Viktor Gyökeres, in the 59th, and Mattias Svanberg, in the 88th, scored the goals for Graham Potter’s side. Omar Rekik found the net for the African team in the 43rd minute, temporarily reducing the deficit to 2-1 before the second-half surge.

In the Group F standings, the Swedes, who missed out on the 2022 tournament and had to navigate the play-offs to reach the 2026 edition, now have three points. They sit ahead of the Netherlands and Japan, who each have one point after playing out a 2-2 draw, while the Tunisians sit at the bottom of the group with zero points.
