Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported today that he had “a good meeting” with American counterpart Donald Trump, during which the two discussed “licenses for production” by Ukraine of Patriot interceptors and a renewed push for diplomacy.
“I am grateful to the United States for its strong support,” Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media platform X following the meeting, which took place behind closed doors at the White House.
“Thank you for everything we do together to protect the lives of Ukrainians and promote peace,” the Ukrainian leader continued.
Trump and Zelensky discussed “licenses for the production of Patriot interceptors and several other ideas that could help,” he described.

One of the main goals of today’s meeting for Zelensky was to secure Trump’s agreement on the purchase of Patriot interceptors, crucial for Ukraine’s air defense, at a time when Russia has been intensifying ballistic missile attacks against Ukrainian cities and towns, missiles that only American Patriot systems are capable of shooting down. The Ukrainian President said the two also spoke “about diplomacy.”
“It is important that the diplomatic process be revitalized,” he emphasized, at a time when U.S.-driven talks with Russia remain suspended. Zelensky said teams from both countries “will work out the details of their future communication.”
The Ukrainian leader also said he conveyed condolences to President Trump over the death of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, whose funeral ceremony he is attending today, as is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Graham, a close ally of Trump, was a strong supporter of both Ukraine and Israel. The meeting between Trump and Zelensky took place without press access, ahead of the American President’s meeting with Netanyahu.
