Adebayor decides to hang up his boots

“With its ups and downs, my career as a professional gamer has been an incredible journey. Thanks to my fans for being with me every step of the way. I’m grateful for everything and excited for what’s to come.”

The forward had been out of the field for some time, so much so that his last steps in professional football were taken between February and July 2020, when he ended up in Paraguay to play for Olimpia.

Most of his career has been spent in the Premier League, with Arsenal being his best-performing team. He had, however, a quick passage through La Liga. Real Madrid signed him in 2011 to alleviate the absence of Gonzalo Higuaín due to injury, and “Manolito”, as he was affectionately nicknamed, managed to win the hearts of the Madrid fans.

It was at the Spanish club where he won one of the only titles of his career, the 2010/2011 King’s Cup, having entered the 70th minute, replacing Özil, and played the final part of the victory over Barcelona, by 1-0, including the extension. However, even with the purchase option, he returned from loan to Manchester City. Adebayor also became runner-up in the Champions League, with Monaco, in 2004.
