This weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix marks the debut of the new tire that Pirelli has developed for Formula 1: the C1.
The compound is a variation between the old C1 – now called C0 – and the C2 on the scale that the manufacturer used until the end of 2022. Now, the range now has six types of tires, from C0 to C5.
For this weekend’s test, the supplier chose the C1, C2 and C3 tires to offer to teams and drivers. The bet is on a track with a very abrasive asphalt and curves at low and medium speeds, which requires compounds in terms of traction and braking.
The scenario would make tough tires more attractive to the entire lineup. And for Mario Isola, director of motorsport at Pirelli, the new compound could be an interesting alternative for the GP.
