Palmeiras player wanted to follow Cristiano Ronaldo’s diet: “I thought I was going to die”

With the departure of Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa, Gabriel Menino gained space in Abel Ferreira’s accounts and has been a regular bet in Palmeiras’ midfield, alongside Zé Rafael. But until recently, the Brazilian did not have this regularity and at the beginning of 2021 he really went through difficulties.

The midfielder admitted that he was “with his head in the clouds”, having lost space in the squad. So much so that he was put on the market by Verdão. At that time, Gabriel Menino, believing that the drop in performance was the result of a physical issue and not a mental one, opted for a diet that he says was identical to that of Cristiano Ronaldo, but the process was not positive.

“I was at my weight, but I wanted to change. I called Mirtes, Palmeiras’ nutritionist, and asked her to make me a Cristiano Ronaldo diet. I wanted to look like Cristiano Ronaldo. The team was formed and I was the third option. The diet was like this: breakfast was an egg and supplements. Pre-workout was supplements. Lunch could be grilled fish/meat and salad. In the snack there were more supplements. For dinner, again, something grilled and salad. And before bed another supplement. That was it ”, he said, in statements in the“ Palmeiras Cast ”.

And the negative effects of that diet quickly began to be felt for the player. “I was warming up and couldn’t take any more running. I just thought, ‘I’m going to die’. Five minutes into the game, he couldn’t run anymore, he needed to be substituted”, he recalls.
